Photokina 2010: Pentax has announced its 645D medium format digital camera will start shipping globally from December 2010. The camera will sell at a retail price of $9999.99 for the body in the US. In the UK, it will be priced at £9000 for the body and £10000 for the kit with the DFA 55mm 645 SDM lens. The first digital version of the company’s 645 medium format camera system, it features a 40MP, 44 x 33mm CCD sensor, 921k dot 3.0″ LCD and is compatible with the existing 645 system lenses.

Ricoh announces CX4 compact with improved IS

Ricoh has released the CX4 compact superzoom with a 10 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor. It offers the same 10.7x (28-300mm equiv.) zoom lens, 920k dot 3 inch LCD and 720p HD video recording as the company’s CX3, but with enhanced image stabilization. The company says its latest version reduces blur to a degree equivalent to using a shutter speed 3.7 EV faster than actually being used. Other features include subject-tracking AF and additional shooting modes.

Olympus announces mju-7050, FE-5050 and FE-4050

Olympus has announced the latest additions to its range of compact cameras. The mju-7050 comes with a 14Mp sensor, 7x (28-196mm equiv.) zoom lens, 3.0" LCD and features HD recording and image stabilization. The 14Mp FE-5050 and 12Mp FE-4050 incorporate 2.7 inch LCDs and wide angle zoom lenses starting at 26mm and 27mm respectively. While all cameras include ‘Magic Filters,’ the 7050 also offers ‘Magic Movies’ where users can apply filter effects to videos.

Sony has announced its 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS E-mount telephoto lens will be available from September 10, 2010 at an estimated retail price of $800 in the US and £699 in the UK. The image-stabilized zoom lens with an equivalent zoom range of 27-300mm is designed for the company’s NEX series of interchangeable lens cameras and camcorder. It will join the existing line-up of E-mount lenses – the 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 zoom and 16mm F2.8 pancake wideangle.

Samsung has released the PL90 digital compact with a built-in USB connector. Plugging in the connector to any computer charges the camera and can automatically install the Intelli-studio software for accessing and sharing camera data. The 12.2 MP image stabilized camera comes with a 2.7 inch LCD, 4x zoom lens (29-116mm equiv.) and includes features such as AF Tracking, Smart Auto and VGA video recording. Priced at $149.99 in the US and £129.99 in the UK, it will be available from September 2010.

Samsung has introduced the ST80 Wi-Fi enabled digital camera allowing users connect to wireless networks for uploading or emailing images and videos. A simpler version of the company’s CL80 and CL65 Wi-Fi cameras, it has a smaller 3.0" touch-screen LCD and more limited un-stabilized 3x zoom lens with no real wide-angle capability (35-114mm equiv.) rather than the existing models’ 7x and 5x stabilized zooms. Beyond this, it continues to offer 720p HD video recording with H.264 compression. The ST80 will be available from September 2010 at a suggested retail price of $249.99 in charcoal black, white, fuchsia pink and mint blue.
