Nikon preparing firmware for D7000

Nikon has announced it is working on a firmware upgrade in response to concerns raised about video from the D7000. The statement confirms the occasional occurrence of bright spots while recording videos as reported by some owners. The firmware will aim to reduce this occurrence. The company says these spots may be noticeable especially when recording movies of dark scenes or subjects and ‘do not indicate a problem with practical use’.

Just Posted: comparison data for the Nikon D7000 and Pentax K-5. Alongside the Canon EOS 60D we’ve been testing a series of the other hot releases announced at this year’s Photokina and two of the hottest are undoubtedly the 16MP mid-range DSLRs from Nikon and Pentax’s. Following the hype and excitement about the D7000 and K-5, we thought it’d be nice to see what their output actually looks like so have added them to our list of cameras that can be compared. We’ve also included them in the Canon EOS 60D review to show them in context.

Photokina 2010: Samyang has updated its 14mm F2.8 lens for Nikon F mount with an electronic interface. The manual focus lens’ electronic contacts allows full support of automatic exposure modes of Nikon DSLRs and includes lens-related data in the EXIF. The AE 14 mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC is designed for full-frame cameras, but works with APS-C cameras as well.

German based Foolography has released versions of its bluetooth geotagging modules for the Nikon D3100, D5000, D7000 and D90. The company’s Unleashed modules slot into the GPS/cable release socket of Nikon’s DSLRs and collect and embed location date from external bluetooth GPS receivers. The Unleashed Dx000 module fits the D3100, D5000 and D7000, while the Unleashed D90 fits only that specific model. They join the company’s existing module for the D200 and upwards, and are both available now at retail price of €149.

Nikon posts firmware update for P90 superzoom

Nikon has released a firmware update for its Coolpix P90 superzoom. Version 1.1 fixes a minor bug that occurs when the camera is in set to manual focus mode with Distortion Control function enabled.
