The “Disability Crosswalk” is a system that is a universal design used to help all users cross the street safely. With specifically the visually impaired in mind, the crosswalk system is activated by a pressure pad which is stood on. After activation, the crosswalk system uses a speed detection device linked to a translator in order to verbally tell the user what the speed of an approaching vehicle is. It also gives a visual number reading of the speed. When a vehicle is stopped or absent, the crosswalk will state the street is safe to cross. There is a rubber rail system which can also be utilized to help the visually impaired cross the street safely and directly. There should be two individual speed reading/warning units across the street from each other, with a rubber rail in between to create one full system.

In addition to the verbal warning to the pedestrian, there is a LED panel on the back side of the crosswalk system which warns drivers that there is a pedestrian trying to cross the road.

Those people who always see the empty part of a half poured glass will name G-Navi as a modern dog trainer, but the rest will certainly admire its ability to make visually impaired people free from their limitations.

G-Navi is a concept mechanism for directing blind people that combines a harness for the guide dog and a headset that remains attached around the backside of the user’s neck. The system synchronizes with the existing GPS and sends out signal to the user when and which why he or she has to turn to reach a particular destination. Though the signal is for the dog’s harness that leans to the appropriate direction from the GPS, resulting turning the dog’s head in that way, the headset also is notified which conveys the signal to the user through vibration to ensure the dog is going to the right direction. Moreover, this innovative concept can be used to make SOS calls and bookmarking information about new places with simple button press. The required energy for the system is accumulated through two 30×100 mm solar panel attached on the guide dog’s vest.

Sicuro Pet Carriers For Eldery People

On September 30, 2010, in Concepts, by admin

When I say a dog is a man’s best friend, I’m sure I speak for most of us. I love having my dog around me all the time, a pet provides companionship and a great time you’ll be having with them around. Seniors have the same feeling when it comes to pets. Research shows seniors who own pets are healthier and more alert, because pets keep the owner engaged and give them a companion to live with. Unfortunately, existing pet carriers are bulky and heavy, it’s difficult for elderly people to transport their pets from one place to another. Sicuro Pet Carrier has been designed to address this issue.

The main concern of existing pet carriers is the lifting part, by adding wheels to the carrier and a telescoping handle, the task of transporting the pet becomes faster and easier. Sliding lid makes it easier to open and close when compared to current latch system, not to mention the design of existing pet carriers are more like a cage. There are small holes in the lowest panel that allow the pet to see out and the owner to check the pet. The telescoping handle allows the user to both extend the handle for easy pushing, as well as lock it in a shorter position to easy lifting. This also comes in handy when storing the carrier. Most pet owners consider their pets as family members instead of just pets, that’s why Sicuro has been designed to look like a baby carriage to remove the connotation of a cage. The small size of Sicuro came from interview results. Most seniors interviewed say that they prefer small pets because they are easier to take care of.
