The reality is that Android’s success in the market went beyond most predictions. Gartner reported that Android accounted for 25.5% of global smartphone sales in Q3 2010. Meanwhile Carphone Warehouse predicted that Android would be its top-selling smartphone platform across Europe in quarter 4 of this year. ICM Research decided that it would be a great time to investigate what users in the UK think of Android. Using a combined approach ICM conducted research to explore motivations for choosing an Android phone and the user experience. A total of 5 in-depth qualitative interviews were completed with Android users to explore opinions in detail. The quantitative element involved 2025 interviews on the ICM Omnibus to offer a more robust measurement of the motivators for choosing Android, in use experience and potential future applications. The fieldwork was completed in Q4 2010. Water Switch Humidifier : A Touch On The Water Turns It On/Off

Water switch humidifier is an innovative concept, unveiled by the group work among Cheng Zheng, Fan Zhang and Yu Zhang with Chengyuan Wei as the leader. This concept is similar to a base of water that people used to have inside the house in order to keep the air damp. It has been designed in such a way that lets people to turn the humidifier on by touching the water surface rather than turning on plastic switches. The humidifier works on the basis of electric capacity, where, on touch of the water surface, the total amount of capacity would change, sending electric signal to a chip that controls the humidifier’s ON/OFF operation. The real challenge was to construct an electric capacity environment with water and whole chips and circuits. After several failure, designers decided to airproof the circuit as well as chips with hot melt glue in order to solve the problem. While the first version of the water switch humidifier is displayed in Zijingang Design Center, the second version sustains the original structure, looking more inventive and integrated.

And in the company’s latest gadget – the iPod touch – Apple has taken that metaphor and turned it into reality. For its flagship flash-based media player it has dumped the click wheel in favour of a touchscreen-drive user interface. It’s the one you’ve read so much about on the iPhone, but here without the hamstrung non-3G phone stuff. Great, but isn’t £279 a lot of cash to spend on a 16GB media player? Wouldn’t you be better off with an iPod Classic? Well, there’s not much in terms of raw specifications to distinguish it from the rest of the iPod range.
